Refuge in Motion
Embark on a journey in a collaborative mini-series dedicated to creating social impact.
This initiative unites film students, communities, and young students worldwide to depict the remarkable journey of Isa, an activist and teacher who spent five years as an asylum seeker in London.
By educating on human rights, anti-racism, and inclusion, the project fosters international collaboration and empowers participants to create impactful narratives that resonate globally.
Problem statement
In our neurodivergent perspective on the Autism Spectrum, we understand that the dehumanization and xenophobia experienced by asylum seekers, refugees and stateless persons largely stem from ignorance about basic human rights and the perpetuation of anti-immigrant rhetoric on social media—concepts that should have long been abolished. This growing segment of society, often rendered invisible in their pain, knowledge, stories, and cultures, faces not only a lack of access to resources and dignity but also the challenge of reclaiming agency. However, they can take on a leading role when there is genuine interest from youth to learn from them and demystify the fake news and racial hatred amplified on social platforms.
Through Refuge in Motion, we will bring together young people aged 13-24 from various cultures and countries, along with teachers and film students, engaging in peer education to create audiovisual content for social media addressing misinformation. We will utilize film, artificial intelligence, and mass collaboration tools, supported by an Ad Hoc advisory board of experts who have validated our initiative.
Project Objectives
  1. Education: Contribute to education on Human Rights topics: MIL - Media and Information Literacy, anti-racism, and intersections with other marginalized groups (LGBTI+, neurodivergent individuals, traditional communities, etc.), prevention of exploitation, access to decentralized finance mechanisms, and training in artificial intelligence tools.
  1. Curatorship and Development of Materials for Teachers: Select and propose questions, reflections, and materials from referential organizations and projects [Amnesty International, ActionAid International, Project SETA, UNHCR, UNESCO, UNICEF, Front Line Defenders, Human Rights Watch, GSF - Global Student Forum, Clowns Without Borders, VNDI - Black Disabled Lives Matter (Brazil), Eurochild, Save the Children, EPCAT, Thorn].
  1. International Collaboration: Foster collaborations between young filmmakers, creators, teachers, artists, creative industry, students and activists from different countries.
International Open Call: A Collaborative Approach
We will have an international Open Call to gather stories and ideas for short episodes. Participants will get short summaries of Isa's life to create scenes showing important moments from her journey:
  • Isa's Stories: Isa was a teacher in her home country and protected the lives of hundreds of students. Now, alongside young activists worldwide, she amplifies her advocacy for education while continuing her quest to reunite with her children.
  • Co-creations with Teachers and Support Professionals: Guidance from teachers and volunteer professionals for students developing the episodes.

Invisible to the Naked Eye
"Invisible to the Naked Eye" is the first film that will guide the teams of the international collaborative project "Refuge in Motion". This work was created to portray the feelings and invisibility of the struggles faced by activists and social workers who are on the front lines, bearing the pain of survivors seeking asylum and refuge in other countries. The film captures the common emotions of loneliness, fear, silence, anger, and the constant search for a safe place.
Creating Social Impact Through Storytelling
  • Workshops and Webinars: Organizing workshops and webinars to guide participants on Isa's story, narrative techniques, and filmmaking.
  • Co-creation with Teachers and Support Professionals: Direct collaboration with teachers and volunteer professionals to support students in creating episodes.
  • Digital Platforms: Using digital platforms to facilitate communication and collaboration among participants from different countries.
  • Participation of leaders from diverse sectors with significant reach in their fields to support dissemination: social leaders, corporate executives in the DEI area, digital creators, entrepreneurs, educators, artists and athletes.

Feasibility: Engagement with Refugee Organisations, Students and Advocacy Groups
A crucial aspect of "Refuge in Motion" is its deep engagement with refugee organisations, students and advocacy groups. These partnerships ensure the project's authenticity and amplify its impact.
This collaboration also provides a platform for these organisations to share their work and messages with a broader audience, creating a mutually beneficial relationship beyond the mini-series itself.
Outreach and Screening Strategy
The strategy for "Refuge in Motion" is designed to maximize the project's impact and reach diverse audiences. The creative process of mobilizing to create the story will be open and available for broadcast.
1

Sustainability: Proactive Segments for Refugees, Asylum Seekers, and Stateless Persons
Access to Financial Solutions
Refuge in Motion is a journey that begins with awareness, followed by sensitization about protecting human rights, and progresses by proposing solutions that combine technologies and decentralized collective collaboration. As we advance in our citizen mobilization to support refugees like Isa, we must consider access to resources and decentralized finances as key elements to amplify the initiative's impact. Due to the systematic exclusion from traditional financial and banking systems, we present the option of direct access to financial resources and technical support, which can provide significant relief for refugees, allowing them to build a solid foundation to rebuild their lives. Regenerative Finance, through technologies like blockchain and web3, offers a secure and transparent way to distribute aid and investments directly to communities in need.
Artificial Intelligence Tools
Refuge in Motion goes beyond highlighting a social issue faced by asylum seekers, refugees, or stateless individuals. By including an integral perspective on resocialization and the learning of artificial intelligence tools, we propose possible solutions to a reality invisible to most of society. Providing accessible AI training can open doors to new professional opportunities and aid in integration into global digital economies. AI-based tools, such as online learning platforms and support applications, can provide practical skills and knowledge that increase employability and income-generating capacity. Integrating these technological solutions into our support for refugees will help create a more inclusive and equitable future, allowing everyone access to the tools necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
